On the fifth anniversary of his arrest in Moscow, American prisoner Paul Whelan is worried the U.S. government will overlook him again.During one of several phone calls to this reporter over the Christmas holiday, he said, “at this point, the five year mark, I’m extremely concerned about being left behind a third time.”Admitting that he’s under physical stress, deeply concerned about his safety and worried he’ll never see his aging parents again, Whelan said the U.S. is not following the format that would trigger his release.“The Russians are adamant that they only want to do one for one exchanges. And as you know, there are two of us here, Evan (Gershkovich) and myself. I’m concerned that the Biden administration will work out a deal for Evan to be returned home, leaving me here a third time.”Gershkovich, a Wall Street Journal correspondent, was detained by Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) on espionage charges in March.Whelan said if Gerskovich is released ...Kris Letang becomes 1st NHL defenseman with 5 points in a period, Penguins bury Islanders 7-0

Congress faces major challenges ahead in 2024, after a tumultuous year that included the ouster of the House Speaker, a self-imposed shutdown when Republicans were unable to choose a new leader and one of the most fallow legislative stretches in its history. The 118th Congress is widely considered one of the least productive ever. While the House conducted nearly 750 votes, only 27 became law.Creating more laws is of course not the only measure for assessing the productivity of Congress, but even in recent years of divided government, lawmakers have passed more than 70 bills into law.“It was a weird year,” said U.S. Sen. Tim Kaine, D-VA., summing up a view held by many lawmakers. The critical view is held by Republicans as well as Democrats.“I want my Republican colleagues to give me one thing — one — that I can go campaign on and say we did. One!” thundered Rep. Chip Roy, R-TX., as he vented his frustration on the House floor last month.House Speaker election f...Leason gets his first 2-goal game in NHL, Drysdale ends goal drought in Ducks’ 5-2 win over Knights
