Authorities conducted a search Tuesday morning after a boat washed ashore in Duxbury, according to police. SKY7 footage shows that the 24-foot Pearson flipped over as it washed up on the beach.Police located the boat around 8 a.m., but the person on board was nowhere to be found. The Coast Guard initiated a search from the air and on the water along with other officials in the area, later announcing that the person who was thought to be missing is safe. The man was located when he returned to the boat on the beach, officials say. The Coast Guard told 7NEWS he left from last night from Scituate on the boat, which he just purchased on Friday. The man told authorities he fell asleep Monday night on board while he was on his way to Cape Cod and woke up when the boat ended up grounded on the beach. He says he left the area of the boat because his cell phone wasn’t working and tried to find someone who could help him. The police have identified and spoken with the man and the Coast ...Lowry, Martin more than asterisks for Heat on Butler’s dominant night

For as much as Miami Heat forward Jimmy Butler accomplished in capping his 56-point night with 21 fourth-quarter points in Monday’s 119-114 victory over the Milwaukee Bucks, he at least was afforded a breather in that decisive final period.Kyle Lowry wasn’t. He played all 12 minutes.Caleb Martin barely was, going all but five seconds in the period.Even Duncan Robinson and Bam Adebayo played more in the fourth than Butler’s 8:11.The point being that even as Butler led, there was a support system that also had the confidence of coach Erik Spoelstra.“They had their fingerprints all over that fourth quarter,” Spoelstra said of Butler’s closing cast, as the Heat now take their 3-1 lead in the best-of-seven Eastern Conference playoff series into Fiserv Forum for Wednesday night’s Game 5.By the numbers, Lowry’s fourth quarter was mundane, with four points, three rebounds and two assists. But his defensive feistiness proved game changing.̶...Sudan fighting eclipses new truce as aid groups raise alarm

CAIRO (AP) — Sudanese and foreigners streamed out of the capital of Khartoum and other battle zones, as fighting Tuesday shook a new three-day truce brokered by the United States and Saudi Arabia. Aid agencies raised increasing alarm over the crumbling humanitarian situation in a country reliant on outside help.So far, a series of short cease-fires the past week have either failed outright or brought only intermittent lulls in the fighting that has raged between the forces of the country’s two top generals since April 15. The lulls have been enough for dramatic evacuations of hundreds of foreigners by air and land, which continued Tuesday. But they have brought no relief to millions of Sudanese caught in the crossfire, struggling to find food, shelter and medical care as explosions, gunfire and looting fighters wreck their neighborhoods. In a country where a third of the population of 46 million already needed humanitarian assistance, multiple aid agencies have had to suspend o...Ex-head of Michigan marijuana panel pleads guilty to bribery

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (AP) — The former head of a Michigan marijuana licensing board pleaded guilty to bribery Tuesday, acknowledging he accepted at least $110,000 in exchange for approving applications for the lucrative business. Rick Johnson’s appearance in federal court in Grand Rapids was a remarkable fall. Years ago he was a powerful state lawmaker, serving as speaker of the Republican-controlled House from 2001 through 2004.The investigation so far has centered on corruption at the marijuana board before it was disbanded in 2019. The board reviewed and approved applications to grow and sell marijuana for medical purposes.A Detroit-area businessman, John Dalaly, pleaded guilty last week. He said he provided at least $68,200 in cash and other benefits to Johnson, including two private flights to Canada.Johnson, 70, answered a series of questions from the judge during the hourlong hearing but wasn’t asked to explain his motive for taking bribes. NEW YORK (AP) — Wall Street is slipping Tuesday after a torrent of companies gave mixed earnings reports for the first three months of the year. The S&P 500 was 0.9% lower in afternoon trading. The Dow Jones Industrial Average was down 165 points, or 0.5%, at 33,710, as of 12:35 p.m. Eastern time, while the Nasdaq composite was 1.3% lower. First Republic Bank tumbled 28.7% for the sharpest loss in the S&P 500 after it said customers withdrew more than $100 billion in deposits during the first quarter. That doesn’t include $30 billion that big banks plugged in to build faith in their rival after the second- and third-largest U.S. bank failures in history shook confidence. The size of the drop in deposits overshadowed First Republic’s beating analysts’ expectations for earnings at the start of the year. The majority of companies so far this reporting season have been topping expectations, but the bar was set considerably low. Analysts are forecasting the worst drop in S&P 50...Lawyer: Proud Boys leader is Trump scapegoat for Jan. 6 riot

WASHINGTON (AP) — A defense attorney argued Tuesday at the close of a landmark trial over the Jan. 6 riot that the Justice Department is making Proud Boys leader Enrique Tarrio a scapegoat for Donald Trump after the former president’s supporters stormed the U.S. Capitol. Tarrio and four lieutenants are charged with seditious conspiracy for what prosecutors say was a plot to attack the Capitol to stop the transfer of presidential power from Trump to President Joe Biden after the 2020 election. In his closing argument, defense lawyer Nayib Hassan noted Tarrio wasn’t in Washington on Jan. 6, 2021, having been banned from the capital after being arrested on allegations that he defaced a Black Lives Matter banner. Trump, Hassan argued, was the one to blame for extorting a crowd outside the White House to “ fight like hell.”“It was Donald Trump’s words. It was his motivation. It was his anger that caused what occurred on January 6th in your beautiful and amazing city,” Hassan ...Patch crowned ‘beautiful bulldog’ at Drake University event

OTTAWA — A Canadian effort is underway to conduct airlifts out of Sudan and two military vessels have arrived off its coast, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said Tuesday, as violence in the region continues for a second week. Trudeau said the federal government is co-ordinating with its allies to evacuate Canadian citizens from Sudan, where fighting between the military and a rival paramilitary group erupted in the East African country earlier this month, with hundreds killed and thousands more injured. “It’s an extremely difficult situation,” Trudeau said. “There’s very limited places where those airlifts can happen from.” One Canadian in Sudan, 29-year-old Waddaha Medani, said she made the trip to an airbase on the outskirts of the battle-torn capital of Khartoum Tuesday morning after she learned of an apparent evacuation flight. She told The Canadian Press in messages exchanged Tuesday that she boarded a German plane set to depart for Jordan, whe...Latest news
