ST. LOUIS – Surveillance video obtained by FOX 2 shows a thief entering a Central West End parking garage and stealing a disabled man’s specialized tricycle.Cycling is a passion for Charlie Schaflein. The 72-year-old struggles with a debilitating case of rheumatoid arthritis, and his recumbent bike is not only his connection to his cycling-friendly neighborhood, it’s also an escape from the limitations of his condition.“It’s a vehicle I can get on and ride myself. I don’t need any help to operate it,” he said. “It’s just nice riding around the neighborhood. It’s a good form of exercise for me.”Schaflein last rode the trike a couple of Sundays ago. ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. – A frightening rollover hit-and-run crash on Interstate 55 has been solved, according to police and prosecutors, with the help of the suspect’s own in-vehicle cameras. Court records reveal the trail of evidence begins with video of the suspect stumbling into his car before the crash.Two crashes were reported on Dec. 2, 2022, at about 9 p.m. A Tesla driver on I-55 near Lindbergh reportedly struck an SUV and drove away. A report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol says the Tesla then hit another SUV, causing that vehicle to roll over.A crash report, released immediately after the crashes, lists the Tesla driver as “unknown.” Court records say witnesses “observed a white male suspect emerge from the driver’s seat and limp away.”No one knew it yet, but the suspect’s Tesla had already recorded everything investigators needed to make an arrest. The State of California will be investing more than $750 million in locations where jobs are plentiful, but housing and green transportation is not. On Wednesday, Gov. Gavin Newsom and the California Strategic Growth Council announced plans to inject $757 million in "jobs-rich" areas to create more affordable housing and clean transit services.The investment represents about 2,500 affordable homes, 150 zero-emission buses and more than 50 miles of new bikeways, the Governor's office says, adding that the projects could remove the equivalent emissions of 178,000 gas-powered cars in a single year.“California is reimagining communities around the state to address the ways our cities are changing – adapting to climate change and addressing housing scarcity," Newsom said in a news release. MILLBRAE – A 72-year-old Pleasanton man was arrested on suspicion of stealing thousands of dollars worth of pens at the San Francisco International Pen Show last week in Millbrae, authorities said.The incident happened around 5:30 p.m., on Saturday at the Westin Hotel, located at 1 Old Bayshore Highway, San Mateo County sheriff’s Sgt. Gaby Chaghouri said in a news release.The hotel at the time was hosting the show, which features hundreds of vendors from around the world. (KRON) -- The California Department of Fish and Wildlife said four new packs of wolves have been spotted in California within the past five months."Holy smokes what fantastic progress we’re witnessing in wolf recovery in California," said Amaroq Weiss with the Center for Biological Diversity. "State and federal endangered species protections are allowing wolves to safely reestablish in the Golden State’s beautiful landscapes."The most recently discovered pack was found in July living in Tulare County's Giant Sequoia National Monument. SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) -- Authorities are looking for a suspect who hit a California Highway Patrol vehicle and escaped after an attempted traffic stop Wednesday afternoon in San Francisco, authorities said. In the process, the suspect disabled the officer's vehicle. The attempted traffic stop was around 4:25 p.m. in the SoMa neighborhood on New Montgomery and Howard Street. CHP said an officer tried to make contact with the unidentified suspect after they refused to stop.The officer then got out of their vehicle and approached the suspect's vehicle, authorities said. As the officer tried to make contact with the suspect, the suspect put their vehicle in reverse and tried to hit the officer.The officer jumped out of the way and was not hurt, CHP said. However, the suspect rammed into the CHP vehicle and disabled it. The suspect was able to escape and remains at large as of Wednesday evening.
