Round Rock ISD expects to be compliant with school safety bill by 2025-26 ROUND ROCK, Texas (KXAN) — Round Rock Independent School District said it expected to be compliant with House Bill 3, which included a requirement of an armed security guard at each campus, by 2025-26.RRISD’s police chief said was until the district police department had the right number of officers for each campus, it would prioritize presence on high school and middle school campuses.The district said it would assign officers to groups of elementary schools and reduce the number of elementary schools assigned to each officer as staffing increases.RRISD said it would, however, need to find the money to afford the new officers.The district said it had enough funds for eight officers--two from the School Safety and Security Grant and six would come out of the money from the state.A resolution claiming a good cause exception during the 2023-2024 school year was due to the lack of funding and available personnel.RRISD’s Police Chief Dennis Weiner spoke on HB3 during the RRISD board mee...

Suspected car thief crashes into Grand Avenue pizza parlor, rams sheriff’s vehicle A suspected car thief driving a stolen Jeep Wrangler smashed into a Grand Avenue pizza parlor and then crashed into a Ramsey County sheriff’s vehicle during an unsuccessful attempt to escape capture, St. Paul police said.According to St. Paul police Sgt. Mike Ernster, about 12:30 p.m. Thursday, police in St. Paul learned that a vehicle stolen in Oakdale was parked behind Toppers Pizza at 1154 Grand Ave.When officers surrounded the vehicle, it sped away, hitting a corner of the Toppers building and then striking a sheriff’s vehicle. The man driving the Jeep jumped out and ran. A female passenger in the vehicle was detained. The man was caught a few blocks away.After it appeared he was overdosing on narcotics, he was revived with Narcan and taken to the hospital for evaluation.Three people were ultimately arrested in connection with the incident. Homeless man snatches phone from man recording him in Santa Monica A homeless man was arrested on Tuesday after he stole a phone from a man who was recording him and fled. Santa Monica police officers responded to a report of a battery in Palisades Park around 3:30 p.m. When they arrived, they found the victim on the ground suffering from injuries to his face and head according to a Santa Monica Police Department news release. Both the victims and witnesses say that while the victim was recording a video of Palisades Park, he turned his camera and began recording a homeless man who was lying on the ground in the park. The man became angry and demanded the victim to stop recording before striking the victim in the face and knocking him to the ground.
