With James Paxton set to return and Garrett Whitlock potentially not far behind, the Red Sox have some decisions to make over who will comprise the starting rotation going forward.Knowing his spot could be on the line, Nick Pivetta didn’t exactly help his case. The Red Sox veteran got crushed Tuesday night, allowing seven runs over four innings in an ugly 9-3 loss to the Atlanta Braves. Pivetta allowed four runs in the bottom of the first, including a towering two-run shot by Braves slugger Matt Olson right out of the chute, and allowed 12 baserunners in total after giving up eight hits, three walks and hitting a batter.“I didn’t have my best day, I wasn’t executing pitches early, got behind a lot of hitters, they’re a good hitting club,” Pivetta said. “Just one of those days.”Though Alex Cora confirmed Pivetta will make his next start against Seattle on Tuesday, the underwhelming performance will intensify speculation he could soon mov...Pittsburgh blanks Revs 1-0 in Open Cup match

The Yankees welcomed the Athletics to Yankee Stadium with four home runs on Monday night, a showing fit for a team nicknamed the Bronx Bombers. On Tuesday, however, the team started scoring by moving station to station during a five-run third inning that propelled the Yankees to a 10-5 win over Oakland.Aaron Judge, in his return from a hip strain, put the Yanks on the board when he grounded a ball off the glove of third baseman Jace Peterson, thus tying the game at one after Peterson picked up an RBI single in the first. A barrage of base knocks followed, as Anthony Rizzo, Gleyber Torres and Harrison Bader all picked up RBI singles off A’s right-hander Drew Rucinski before Jake Bauers made it 5-1 with a sacrifice fly. Then came the power, as Torres added his second home run in as many days, a two-run shot, in the fifth inning. Bauers then did the same in the seventh.A sacrifice fly from Judge gave the Yankees double-digit runs following an Anthony Volpe triple in the eighth.Whi...Celtics’ season suddenly on brink after abysmal Game 5 loss to 76ers

The Celtics claimed they understood the stakes. Hours before their pivotal Game 5, Malcolm Brogdon declared it a must-win. The sense of urgency was real.“It’s a desperation mindset for us,” Brogdon said. “We have to have this one.”Hours later, those words proved hollow. And suddenly, somehow, this Celtics season filled with so much promise, with expectations of a championship, is on the brink of dying in the second round. These Celtics – who made their lives difficult time and time again – continued the alarming theme on an embarrassing night in TD Garden. The crowd was lifeless from the opening tip, but the Celtics gave them nothing to be excited about. They put themselves in the same position as last season, when they lost Game 5 at home to the Bucks in the...2 San Diego-area flower shops among top in US: Yelp

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) — Maryland’s highest court on Tuesday reversed a ruling by a lower court that the state’s first-in-the-nation tax on digital advertising was unconstitutional, saying the court lacked jurisdiction over the case.In an order, Justice Matthew Fader, the chief justice of the Supreme Court of Maryland, sent the case back to Anne Arundel County Circuit Court with directions to dismiss. He said the plaintiffs failed to exhaust administrative remedies through the state’s tax court — Reasons will be stated in a later opinion. The four-page order does not make any ruling on the constitutionality of the law. Last year, the circuit court ruled that the tax on digital advertising violates the federal Internet Tax Freedom Act, which prohibits discrimination against electronic commerce. The court also held that the law violates the U.S. Constitution’s prohibition on state interference with interstate commerce. In a case that is being closely watched by other states th...South Carolina Republicans advance new abortion restrictions

Lawmakers advanced the proposal through a morning subcommittee meeting with one hour of public comment and a full committee meeting lasting over three hours. The measure would ban abortion when an ultrasound detects cardiac activity, around six weeks and before most people know they are pregnant. It includes exceptions for fatal fetal anomaly, rape, incest, and the patient’s life and health up to 12 weeks. Doctors could face felony charges carrying a $10,000 fine and two years of imprisonment for violations. But the House comm...Bill that would require Texas schools to teach fentanyl-awareness passes through House
