SANTA CLARA — Here is how the 49ers’ four quarterbacks looked in Thursday’s practice according to our sideline clipboard:BROCK PURDYJan. 29: Right elbow injured. March 10: Ulnar collateral ligament repaired. July 27: Return to practice! Well, that escalated quicker than anticipated, a 179-day span that sure beats a year-long hiatus had he required Tommy John reconstruction.Purdy looks healthy. Perhaps rusty. But healthy, so he certainly is poised to retain the starting role for the Sept. 10 opener at Pittsburgh.Statistically, he completed just 3-of-10 passes in full-team drills. Not all those misses were on him, such as his first pass being dropped by Ross Dwelley in the right flat.#49ers Brock Purdy is back — as is his connection to George Kittle pic.twitter.com/pJepJWfbHE— Cam Inman (@CamInman) July 27, 2023The most concerning pass: Purdy’s second series began when Clelin Ferrell brought pressure from Purdy’s left, and Purdy pushed a pass off hi...Who gets Bubbles? SAN JOSE, Calif. (KRON) -- In the South Bay, thousands of city workers in San Jose could go on strike in August if a deal with the city is not reached soon. The unionized city workers have been on the job since June 30 without a new contract. Negotiations between the city and unions have broken down and now the unions are ready to ask workers if they are willing to go out on strike. Two unions, representing 4,500 San Jose city workers, have called for a strike vote on August 1. These are workers at city facilities including libraries and the airport. The unions say that a strike could also impact emergency response times and affordable housing in San Jose. The unions say that they have been negotiating with the city for months and are asking for competitive wages and benefits and that the city address staffing shortages. In a statement to KRON4, San Jose Mayor Matt Mahan said he believes workers should be fairly compensated, adding, “We are committed to continuing to ne...Rising ocean temperatures impact California marine life

SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) -- Ocean temperatures in the Pacific aren’t increasing at the rates of the Atlantic right now, but scientists worry that an El Niño year will cause another marine heat wave here in California. The state’s last El Niño was from about 2014 to 2016, and the Marine Mammal Center says they are still seeing impacts. Laura Gill, public programs manager at the center, says climate change is causing food sources for seal pups to move further offshore.“That ultimately can lead to malnutrition and those younger pups washing back up on shore and beaches looking lethargic and skinny,” Gill told KRON4.Rare sightings such as gray whales swimming near the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge and the washing up of a dead gray whale on Angel Island are also likely related to climate change, according to the center. MEXICO CITY (AP) — Mexico’s president said Thursday that he has offered to buy an American company’s Caribbean coast property for about $385 million to end a bitter, years-long dispute. President Andrés Manuel López Obrador said a formal offer would be presented to Alabama-based Vulcan Materials. The company operated gravel extraction pits at the Yucatan peninsula site before López Obrador’s administration closed them. The company said it had not yet received the president’s proposal or responded to the idea. In papers filed for a case before an international arbitration panel, Vulcan Materials valued the almost 6,000-acre (2,400 hectare) property, located just south of the resort town of Playa del Carmen, at $1.9 billion.López Obrador said his much lower offer was fair and based on a government assessment. He said the most attractive part of the property was the freight shipping dock, which he plans to turn into a dock for cruise ships. As the only significant port facil...England bowled out for 283 on the 1st day of the final Ashes test against Australia
