(KXAN) -- The AARP has a long list of money saving-tips from experts and research.KXAN asked Neil Wertheimer, the deputy editor of the AARP’s guide ‘99 Great Ways to Save' for some of his best tips from the guide, which is now in its 14th edition.Let’s start at the grocery store.“Before you leave home, look at the app or website of your grocery store. Two thirds of grocery stores now offer exclusive discounts online,” said Wertheimer.Once you are in the store, go for certain brands.“We just did some research about house brands versus name brands. We had reporters across the country shop a list of 32 items and compare the prices. Overall, they save 27% by buying the house brand over the name brands.”This next tip is important before you head toward the register.“Go to self checkout. ROTTERDAM, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- The Rotterdam Police Department is investigating after a shot was fired inside the Long Pond Village Apartment Complex. EAST GREENBUSH, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- One person is dead and another is seriously injured after a motorcycle crash in East Greenbush. The East Greenbush Police Department said Richard Davis, 63, of Schodack was killed, and John Agan, 67, of East Greenbush is in critical condition. The crash took place on Columbia Turnpike on Thursday around 4:40 p.m. Police said an 87-year-old turned their car in front of the motorcycle, causing the crash. Both were brought to Albany Medical Center where Davis was pronounced dead and Agan was listed in critical condition.No charges have been filed against the driver of the car at this point. ST. LOUIS - The St. Louis Board of Aldermen pass two bills that address significant issues in the city in the Board’s last meeting before the summer break. The Board passed Board Bills 29 and 82 by wide margins Thursday morning.Board Bill 29 passed unanimously 14-0 while Board Bill 82 passed 11-2. Alderwoman Cara Spencer sponsored Board Bill 29. It bans people from openly carrying or displaying guns in the city without having a concealed-carry permit.“Board Bill 29 was really just a look at what we can do as a city to start to address guns in the city of St. Louis," Spencer said. LOUIS - Twenty-five-year-old Jacorren Riley is facing first-degree murder charges for an ostensible retaliation murder.Levi Henning had only been out of prison on bond for about a month before he was gunned down on June 22 near his home in the 5600 block of Bartmer Avenue."I've never had a client murdered, especially on his way to court,” said W. David Mueller, Henning’s attorney.On Wednesday, the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department arrested Riley for Henning's murder. Riley is the older brother of Carieal Doss, who was murdered three years ago.
