Bud Grant, stoic coach of powerful Vikings teams, dies at 95

Bud Grant, the legendary coach who led the Vikings to four Super Bowls and the team’s only NFL championship, died Saturday morning at the age of 95, the team announced on its web site.Grant, who was born in Superior, Wis., in 1927, coached the Vikings from 1967-1983, then one last season in 1985, retired with a career record of 158-96-5. That includes the team’s only Super Bowl appearances after the 1969, 1973, 1974 and 1976 — all losses.“We are absolutely heartbroken to announce that legendary Minnesota Vikings head coach and Hall of Famer Bud Grant has passed away this morning at age 95,” the Vikings said in a statement. “We, like all Vikings and NFL fans, are shocked and saddened by this terrible news.”Grant might have been born in Wisconsin, and started his coaching career in Canada, but he was a Minnesotan through and through. ST. LOUIS — A portion of St. Louis County is under a cautionary boil advisory after a 20 inch water main break. Missouri American water says about 3,600 customers are affected. Missouri American water says this is just a precautionary measure. “Water is okay to use without boiling for non-consumable use such as washing clothes and bathing. Customers will be notified when the advisory is lifted which should be approximately 48 hours from now,” statement from Missouri American Water. The water main break has closed a portion of Gravois Road near Musick Road. The newest affordable housing development in Santa Monica opened its doors on Friday. Las Flores will offer 73 affordable housing units for the local community, with one-, two- and three-bedroom units available. The building includes a playground, parking, a community garden and kitchen, a gym, wellness studio, on-site laundry and an outdoor picnic area. In addition, Las Flores will be all-electric and include EV charging stations and solar panels. “Today marks a tremendous milestone in our city’s commitment to providing housing security and stability to our entire community,” said Santa Monica Mayor Gleam Davis. “This development ensures that everyone in our city has access to safe and affordable housing.” The building was built with the help of the Community Corporation of Santa Monica, a nonprofit that restores, builds and manages local affordable housing. SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — Outfielder Mitch Haniger, one of the San Francisco Giants’ marquee free-agent additions, underwent an MRI on Friday night that revealed a Grade 1 strain in his left oblique, manager Gabe Kapler said Saturday morning.Haniger, 32, will rest for the next 5-7 days, the Giants said, and will be re-evaluated after that for resuming baseball activity. Hundreds of people in the agricultural community of Pajaro in Monterey County were forced to flee their homes when the Pajaro River levee breached Friday night following a day of heavy rain, prompting authorities to call in the California National Guard to rescue stranded residents from floodwaters, county officials said.The breach happened at around midnight just upstream from Pajaro near Watsonville. By Bay City NewsA fire broke out at the People’s Village homeless shelter in Petaluma on Friday morning.Petaluma firefighters responded to the structure fire on the 900-block of Hopper Street at about 4:09 a.m., according to a press release from the Petaluma Fire Department.The village is a collection of 25 tiny homes built in a lot behind the Mary Isaak Center, designed to provide a safe, managed shelter to address the county’s declared shelter crisis.The fire broke out in one of the units but was controlled by the fire sprinklers installed as part of the construction of the village. SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) -- The St. Patrick's Day Parade will run through a few key neighborhoods on Saturday morning, and drivers in particular should be prepared for delays, according to the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency.
