Arrest made after deadly 2018 apartment fire in San Marcos

SAN MARCOS, Texas (KXAN) — Several agencies plan to announce the arrest of a suspect almost five years after a deadly fire at a San Marcos apartment complex. According to a news release from the City of San Marcos, someone is now in custody after the fire that killed five people at the Iconic Village apartments on July 20, 2018. City leaders are not yet sharing the suspect's name or what led authorities to this person. However, they plan to put out more details at a news conference Thursday at 10 a.m. KXAN will provide a live stream at that time in this story and on the station's Facebook page. The agencies that will take part in Thursday's news conference include the San Marcos Fire Department, the San Marcos Police Department, the Hays County District Attorney's Office, the Hays County Justice of the Peace, the Texas Department of Public Safety and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF). Northwestern Minnesota state Rep. Matt Grossell has pleaded guilty to a fourth-degree DWI charge for an incident that took place in February in Clearwater County.Grossell, a retired Clearwater County sheriff’s deputy and former Blackduck police chief, entered a guilty plea on June 29 to one count of fourth-degree DWI after being cited on Feb. 11 for driving while intoxicated.According to an incident report, the Clearwater Republican was stopped by the Minnesota State Patrol for speeding in the early morning hours of Feb. 11 in Gonvick. He submitted to a blood-alcohol test that showed he was at 0.15%, which is nearly twice the legal driving limit of 0.08%.Minnesota Rep. BALLSTON SPA, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- A Brooklyn man who admitted to using fake money at the Queensbury Walmart was sentenced to two to four years of incarceration. Nicholas C. Many Californians seem to think that things are bigger and better in Texas, according to a new report from Storage Café.The exodus of Californians moving to Texas has continued to pick up steam, with a record number of Golden State residents leaving California for the Lone Star state in 2021. Researchers found that 111,000 people, or 300 per day, decided to make the move from California to Texas in 2021, an 80% increase compared to 2012, according to data from the U.S. Census and IPUMS.
