PARIS (AP) — Lens extended its unbeaten run in the French league to eight games with a 3-0 win at Clermont in an ill-tempered match on Saturday.Club-record signing Elye Wahi opened the scoring for Lens with an 11th-minute header but was sent off in first-half stoppage time, along with Clermont defender Alidu Seidu. Lens remained in sixth place but moved one point behind fifth-place Reims ahead of Sunday’s games. It is some turnaround for Lens after losing four of its first five matches.Lens goalkeeper Brice Samba, who is a backup goalie for France, prevented an equalizer with a stunning close-range stop from striker Grejohn Kyei in the 26th.Wahi, who joined this summer from Montpellier for 35 million euros ($38 million), was shown a second yellow card and sent off following a heated verbal exchange with Seidu, who was shown a straight red card moments later. That decision angered Clermont coach Pascal Gastien and he got sent off from the dugout.Lens controlled the second half,...Rangers throttle Bruins, 7-4

The eye test has told us over the last week that the Bruins are not really the best team in the NHL . Now the standings confirm it.The New York Rangers leapfrogged the B’s into the league’s top spot by points percentage for the time being with a 7-4 win at Madison Square Garden. It was the first time the B’s have lost two games in a row, and in regulation no less. But much more troubling than the standings is how the product has looked lately. Counting the B’s 3-1 win over Florida, the B’s allowed 18 goals in four games in the week.Again, the B’s started horribly and found themselves in a hole early. They played well in spurts and did tie the game twice. But the performance could not be categorized as good by any means, and with far-too-taxed Linus Ullmark having a merely average outing, the B’s got the result they could have gotten on many other outings this year if not for great goaltending. The first period was a wild, see-saw 20 minutes th...HS soccer: Season filled with dramatic finishes

For the last handful of years, Concord-Carlisle (20-0-4) found itself competing atop the MIAA Div. 1 soccer ranks. However, the Patriots had consistently struggled to take that next big leap. That all changed when the school ran roughshod through its regular season slate before embarking on a deep playoff run. Thanks to goals from Sean Fernandez-Davila and Brady Poor, the Patriots knocked off a perennial state finalist in Needham, completing an unbeaten season while winning their first championship since 2011.After a miraculous finish by Oliver Ames to capturie the 2022 Div. 2 boys soccer crown, somehow the Tigers (19-3-1) managed to outdo themselves. Despite losing so many vital pieces from that team, the program reloaded, earning a playoff berth as the No. 6 seed. They went right back to the title bout, where Joey Carney sniped a game-ending goal in overtime to deliver the Tigers a second straight championship. It was the fifth Div. 2 title for the team in the past decade. The Div. ...Donald Trump will look to upstage Clemson grad Nikki Haley at football rivalry game

COLUMBIA, S.C. — Donald Trump is using a college football rivalry weekend to bask among his supporters in a state and region that are key to his presidential fortunes, while potentially upstaging his Republican opponent Nikki Haley on her home turf. The former president and current front-runner for the 2024 Republican nomination will be on hand Saturday when South Carolina hosts Clemson, Haley’s alma mater, in the annual Palmetto Bowl.Trump’s campaign has not detailed his itinerary. But if his visit is similar to his trip to Ames, Iowa for the Iowa State-Iowa game, he will visit pregame parties, perhaps stop by a fraternity house and then join 80,000-plus at Williams-Brice Stadium.Hours before kickoff, Trump’s campaign announced that he had been endorsed by “more South Carolina legislators than all opposing candidates combined,” including new backing from six state lawmakers who had previously supported U.S. Sen. Tim Scott, before the South Carolinian ended his pres...Ramona woman killed in head-on collision on SR-78, DUI suspected

KHAN YOUNIS, Gaza Strip (AP) — Hamas agreed to release 13 Israelis and seven foreigners late Saturday in exchange for 39 Palestinians imprisoned by Israel, Qatari and Egyptian mediators said, after the militant group delayed the second round of swaps for several hours and claimed that Israel had violated the terms of a truce deal. The last-minute delay had created a tense standoff on the second day of what's meant to be a four-day cease-fire. By nightfall, as the hostages should have emerged from Gaza, Hamas alleged that the aid deliveries permitted by Israel fell short of what was promised and that not enough of it was reaching northern Gaza — the focus of Israel's ground offensive and main combat zone. Hamas also said not enough veteran prisoners were freed in the first swap on Friday.“This is putting the deal in danger,” Osama Hamdan, a senior Hamas official, said in Beirut. But Egypt, Qatar and Hamas itself later said obstacles had been overcome, and Hamas listed six women and 3...Neighbors help save Virginia woman’s dogs from burning home
