A downtown Stillwater bar is no longer facing criminal charges of selling alcohol to 20-year-old George Musser prior to his death in December. In an amended complaint filed Wednesday in Washington County District Court, Brian’s Bar & Grill is still accused of having sold liquor to an underage patron on Dec. 23, but not to Musser.George Musser (Courtesy of Bradshaw Funeral Home)“After reviewing all of the evidence, we could not prove beyond a reasonable doubt that Mr. Musser was served any alcohol by the establishment,” Stillwater City Attorney Joe Kelly said Thursday.Musser, of Stillwater, was last seen alive around 2:20 a.m. Christmas Eve, leaving Brian’s Bar & Grill at 219 S. Main St., the Washington County sheriff’s office said at the time. The temperature was below zero with fairly strong winds when Musser left the bar in a flannel shirt and jeans with a stocking cap and shoes but no coat. Alexander Mattison is taking the biggest opportunity of his life and running with it. Literally. After serving as the primary backup to Dalvin Cook for the past few seasons, Mattison is finally the guy shouldering the load as the team’s top running back. That much was decided earlier this offseason when the Vikings released Cook to save some money during a salary cap crunch. Now, with training camp underway at TCO Performance Center in Eagan, there’s no question that Mattison is the starting running back for the Vikings.“It’s my job now to go out there and prove their decision right,” Mattison said. “I’m extremely honored that they trust and believe in me.”To the untrained eye, the decision to roll with Mattison instead of Cook this season might not make a lot sense. Take a closer look at the body of work, however, and it sheds some light on why general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah felt comfortable taking that risk. Not only is Mattison a p...Democrats introduce bill to eliminate student loan interest for current borrowers

Congressional Democrats on Thursday introduced legislation that would immediately cut interest rates to 0 percent for all 44 million student loan borrowers in the U.S. While the Student Loan Interest Elimination Act, introduced by Rep. Joe Courtney (D-Conn.) and Sen. Peter Welch (D-Vt.), would cover current borrowers, future ones would still be on the hook for interest, though under a different system. The interest rates for future borrowers would be determined by a “sliding scale” based on financial need, leading some borrowers to still have 0 percent on their interest. No student would get an interest rate higher than 4 percent. Furthermore, the bill will establish a trust fund where interest payments would go to pay for the student loan program’s administrative expenses. “Students and families are already saddling the rising costs of a college education. The federal government should not exacerbate the problem by making money off borrowers’ federal student loa...St. Louis Music Park organizers plan to keep concertgoers cool in the dangerous heat

A beloved neighborhood donut shop in Los Angeles is being forced to close after serving the surrounding community for decades. Known for their coffee, croissants, their kindness and, of course, their donuts, Ms. Donut has been a gathering place for those in the Echo Park and Silver Lake neighborhoods some 60 years. “This place is like family to me,” customer Conrado Terrazascross told KTLA. “I’ve been coming here since they owned it.” The owner of the building, which is located at Glendale Boulevard and Montana Street, has decided to sell the property and the hard-working family owners of Ms. Donut are being evicted. “The American dream is kind of broken,” one of the owners of the donut shop, Annenn, told KTLA. “It’s painful. We invested our time, barely saw our children growing. Financially, it’s really difficult. Everything is getting so expensive right now.” Shop owners, Annenn and Sophany, work 12-hour days, opening the donut shop at 5 a.m. every day. Cu...Latest news
