BALTIMORE — With the trade deadline on Tuesday, there was plenty of activity around Major League Baseball on Saturday and Sunday. But at the time of publication, the Yankees had yet to make any moves. The first-place Rangers added ex-Mets righty Max Scherzer and ex-Yankees and Cardinals lefty Jordan Montgomery to their rotation. Meanwhile, the Blue Jays — who occupy the final wild card spot that the Yankees are chasing — acquired flame-throwing reliever Jordan Hicks from St. Louis. If a division rival upgrading wasn’t bad enough, the red-hot Cubs also decided to keep Cody Bellinger, according to ESPN’s Jesse Rogers. Bellinger would have been a great — if not costly — fit for the Yankees, as his left-handed bat and glove could have helped an offense and defense that have often lacked.“You see it with interest,” Aaron Boone said Sunday of the flurry, but he added that his focus is on winning games. “It’s not something for...San Diego park gets new playground, nature area after fire over a year ago

SAN DIEGO -- A popular park in Mount Hope finally got a facelift after a fire destroyed the area's well-loved playground over a year ago.Back in 2021, San Diego police reported someone set fire to the play structure in Denis V. Allen Park. The fire completely destroyed the structure, as well as the surrounding rubberized surface.Earlier this year, the park was remodeled by the City of San Diego, giving the space new play equipment and an updated nature area. The nature area, transformed by the San Diego Parks and Recreation Department, previously only had a single bench. In the area, the department repurposed fallen trees from this year’s winter storms to create a Nature Exploration Area for kids to play on. Two shots during the final round of the 3M Open — one more majestic than the next — sealed Lee Hodges’ first career PGA Tour victory on Sunday. Both were second-shot approaches on par 5s.The first came on the sixth hole when Hodges, from 253 yards out, laced a ball that landed about two feet clear of the greenside pond and skipped 11 feet past the cup. He buried the eagle putt to get to 23-under par on the tournament. The second came on the 12th, when Hodges, coming off two pulled drives, on No. 10 and No. 11 that led to scrambling pars, blitzed his drive down the fairway, leaving himself with 256 yards to the pin. He fired a dart that softly landed 2 feet, 8 inches away for a kick-in eagle to all but end the competition.“Those were two of the greatest shots I ever hit,” Hodges said.Hodges alternated bogeys and birdies over his final four holes on Sunday at TPC Twin Cities, putting an exclamation point on the victory with a stuffed wedge from 115 yards out to just 16...Corpse flower now blooming at Missouri Botanical Garden
