Inmate dies in Douglas County jail, investigation underway

An inmate at the Douglas County Detention Center died Wednesday morning, sheriff’s deputies said Thursday.At 5 a.m. Wednesday, Douglas County Sheriff’s Office deputies stationed at the county detention center responded to an inmate suffering an unknown medical issue, according to a Thursday news release from the department.When deputies arrived, the inmate was unconscious and not breathing, the news release stated.Deputies immediately started lifesaving efforts on-scene and transported the inmate to a nearby hospital, where he was later declared dead by medical staff, the release stated.According to the release, there were no signs of a physical altercation or suspicious activity, but the investigation is ongoing.The Douglas County Coroner’s Office conducted an autopsy Thursday and is expected to release the inmate’s name and cause of death later Thursday afternoon.This is a developing story.Related ArticlesCrime and Public Safety | Driver was drun...Slovakian skier Vlhova uses frenetic final run to beat Shiffrin in rainy World Cup night race

Two Pronounced Dead after Single-Car Accident near Sunol BoulevardPLEASANTON, CA (December 21, 2023) – Two victims died Monday afternoon in a solo-car collision on Interstate 680 near Sunol Boulevard.At approximately 2:36 p.m., police officers responded to calls regarding an incident on the southbound lanes of the freeway near Castlewood Drive. The driver of a vehicle veered off the road under circumstances currently under investigation.The vehicle, occupied by at least six adults and two juveniles, was involved in the incident. SAN JOSE — Coroner’s officials have concluded that a man’s death following a street fight on the southern edges of the city last year was a homicide, according to San Jose police.The death was reported July 11, 2022, at around 12:50 p.m. in the 6400 block of Hellyer Avenue. Responding police officers found a man who was receiving CPR from a bystander; he was eventually taken to a hospital, where he died.An ensuing investigation determined that the man who died had been in a fight with an unknown person before the police call. Associated PressCHICAGO — Quaker Oats on Friday recalled several of its granola products, including granola bars and cereals, saying the foods could be contaminated with salmonella.Salmonella infections can cause fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting and stomach pain, according to the Food and Drug Administration. In rare cases, the bacterial disease can be fatal.Quaker, which is owned by PepsiCo, said in a news release that it has not received any reports of salmonella infections related to the recalled granola products. The full list of recalled foods includes granola oats cereals and Quaker Chewy Bars, which are also sold in PepsiCo’s snack mixes.The affected products have been sold in all 50 U.S. states, as well as U.S. territories, Quaker said.
