The D.C. area is bracing for heavy rain and damaging winds Tuesday night as severe thunderstorms roll through the region.The National Weather Service has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for northwestern D.C. and southeastern Montgomery and northwestern Prince George’s counties in Maryland. The warning is in effect through 11:15 p.m., after a severe storm was spotted moving 25 mph over Chevy Chase.Quarter-sized hail and 60 mph winds are possible.A Flash Flood Warning is in effect for northwestern D.C. and southeastern Montgomery and northwestern Prince George’s counties until 2:45 a.m. Wednesday.The weather service also issued a Flash Flood Warning for northwestern Montgomery County, in effect through 1:15 a.m. Wednesday.Between 1.5 and 3.5 inches of rain have already fallen in the affected area, and additional amounts of 0.5 to 2 inches are possible, according to the weather service. LEWISTON, Idaho (AP) — Bull riding star J.B. Mauney announced his retirement Tuesday, a week after breaking his neck in the Lewiston Roundup.The 36-year-old Mauney, from Charlotte, North Carolina, said on Instagram he had surgery at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in Lewiston that required the removal of a disk.“Surgery went great, and I would like to thank everyone … for taking care of me,” Mauney wrote. “Unfortunately with the surgery, it ended my bull riding career. Students in Arlington, Virginia, made strides in several subjects last year but saw a minor decline in writing, according to standardized test score data shared with the school board last week.Overall, the county reported a four-point increase in math and a seven-point improvement in social studies. DENVER (KDVR) — The Denver Office of the Medical Examiner has released the names of two people killed near the South Platte River Trail.Lluvia Robles-Banuelos, 31, was found shot to death on Sept. 6, near Interstate 70 and Washington Street. Three days later, 43-year-old Jeremy Hutcheson was found shot to death near South Platte River Drive and Florida Avenue.
