Native American Mascot changes as school year ends ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) —  The New York State Board of Education issued a mandate in 2022 that school districts can no longer use Native American names, mascots, imagery, or logos. Several school districts including Glens Falls, Corinth and Schoharie have all changed their mascots from Indigenous imagery to unassociated names. Glens Falls Indians became The Bears, Corinth’s Tomahawk’s became The Riverhawks, and Schoharie’s Indians became The Storm. MORE NEWS FROM NEWS 10Two school districts however are still in the process of changing their mascots. Timothy Cavanaugh talks campaign with News10 WATERVLIET, N.Y. (NEWS10) - Primary elections for many municipal offices are happening on June 27. One of the races is for Watervliet mayor. Democrat Timothy Cavanaugh is trying to unseat the democratic incumbent.Cavanaugh is a retired employee of the city's public works department. He spent 37 years working at the department and decided to run over the management style of the current mayor. According to Cavanaugh, one of the biggest issues facing the city is absentee landlords. He claims many of them are from New York City or Boston and don't care about the city of Watervliet."They really don't care who they rent to," said Cavanaugh. He adds those bad renters are becoming a problem, "one house like this in a good block will make several good people move out." Cavanaugh says those homes need to be inspected.Cavanaugh sat down with News10 to discuss the issues ahead of the Tuesday June 27th democratic primary.

Police seize drugs, nitrous oxide tanks at Live Nation Concerts at SPAC SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- Concertgoers flocked to the Saratoga Performing Arts Center over Father's Day weekend to attend concerts by Shaggy, TLC, and Dead & Company. New York State Park Police reported that while most concertgoers were peaceful, 24 arrests were made over the weekend. Saratoga Springs Police Department K-9 Vas and his handler, Officer Arpei, assisted with a search warrant that led to the arrest.Other items seized over the weekend include ballistic body armor, hypodermic needles, illegal narcotics, and over 50 tanks of nitrous oxide. Police also located and arrested the operator of a mini-bus which they say was involved in a property damage incident at the Dead & Company concert in Chicago.

Conviction for Ill. man who caused fatal wreck driving while high EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. - A Madison County jury deliberated for five hours before convicting a Collinsville, Illinois, man who caused a fatal crash while driving under the influence of marijuana.The crash occurred about 4 a.m. on Feb. 23, 2018, on Highway 40 in Highland.Investigators determined Wayne Stayton was driving his pickup truck while high, crossed the center line of the highway, and collided with another truck, driven by Charlene Johnson. Hearing on short-term rental regulations today Johnson was killed in the crash. She was 45.Stayton was found guilty of two counts of aggravated DUI causing death. He faces between three and 14 years in state prison when he's sentenced.“Even with the increased acceptance and legalization of marijuana, driving while impaired on this drug is still illegal,” Madison County State's Attorney Tom Haine said. “Those who choose to drive while high – or who smoke marijuana while driving – face prosecution and potentially jail time.”
